Our drag racing season is quickly coming to a close. So who's gonna come out and play in some of the cooler weather, and see what their cars are capable of? If I recall, the final race is on 10/16 *sunday* ?9am-5pm? Somebody please correct me if Im wrong on the time, just what I recall.

Regardless, I'll be there in the Colt doing some time runs.

Who else is in????

I'll be there with my car. nuthin too much to look at...but it'll be there.

I will be there with the USE2BNT hot rod. Hopefully the newly purchased slicks will allow me to get some traction this time instead of the terrible Yoko street tires I currently have. You do not get any traction on a 38 degree night on street tires.

14.006 eh Harv? Thats haulin.

What MPH?

Was it worth missing a weekend of drunken shenanigans in Pvegas?

I’ll be rockin the new suspension, sounds like Nate and Jason will be coming along. Another friend from Madison with a 20g assisted AWD Summit wagon (another maroon one, but the extended 5 door verson) will be in attendance as well. Should be a great track outing.

I ran a 14.006 @103.939 with a 2.352 60 foot. The slicks will help out a lot tomorrow. It was worth missing a drunken weekend but would have been nice to run quicker.

I'll be there with the Eclipse to compete in the Quick 16 class like normal.

I'll be there prior to 9am to have the car cool down.

Had a stellar time, couldnt have asked for a better day to go racing. The air was cool, the sun was beating down on the (well prepped) track, and the Colt was running STRONG!!!!!!!
I drove in, slapped on the slicks, opened the cutout, and went to make a pass. Boost was set to around 23psi. I launch at around 3000rpm, and get the hell out of 1st around 6,000, then shift everything else just over 7000.
Pass 1:
60' - 2.044
330' - 5.477
1/8' - 8.153 @ 91.56
1000' - 10.451
1/4 - 12.367 @ 117.84

Went back to the pits, thrilled about my new times to let the car cool off. Noticed wires dangling underhood, saw my boost switch for the meth injection was busted in half. N-rigged it, didnt work.

Looked back at my datalog, saw I was hitting between 20-43 counts of knock through the whole run, 10 deg of timing, yada yada.
Took out a loan to put 3 gallons of 100 octane in with my 1/2 tank of 93 octane. :(

All better, time for 2nd pass. Went up against a "clocks off" sprayed LT1 camaro that was at RSD last night with big ass slicks on those new pro star wheels. Thought I'd get my ass kicked for sure. Not the case :Flip Off:

Pass 2:
60' - 2.063
330' - 5.496
1/8 - 8.118 @ 93.45
1000' - 10.368
1/4 - 12.243 @ 120.51

I reeled the bastard in, took him by a bumper length on the big end. Slowing down side by side, he was slamming the steering wheel, death glare at me. He promptly returned to put his car on the 'trailer'. :woot:

Went back into the staging lanes to wait for another 1.5hrs, giving more than adequate cooldown time.
Pass 3:
60' - 2.004
330' - 5.410
1/8 - 8.031 @ 93.52
1000' - 10.274
1/4 - 12.153 @ 117.44

This was all done with full interior, peg leg open front differential, 170,000mile junkyard 6 bolt. Drove it there, drove it home.
:dsm:

Some backroad testing has shown that rolling on the throttle from a roll in 4th gear will solidly roast the tires to 110mph. The car feels very very crisp, and the wideband verifies that it is running well.
Butt dyno (opinion) says that straight methanol is an adequate substitute for racegas

With this said, I'm going down next weekend to work on reasonably backing these numbers up with the methanol injection repaired. The last two passes I had about 5 gallons of 93 octane, and 3 gallons of 100 octane in the tank. The first pass was straight 93 octane at 23psi and lots of knock.

Also, cant forget...big thanks to Dykstra for helping out!

now lets see those numbers on street tires :Flip Off:

Lets see you match my street tire trap speed :Flip Off: About 4 track outings ago, I did a 13.7@114 on $50 apiece Yoko's and stock 170,000mi 1.5L suspension. Im willing to be that the car has picked up somewhat on the new/improved suspension.

I'm really liking the new MT drag radials. Perhaps a 'to do' for next year???
I'm rolling on the Doral's right now, those babies really SQUEEEAALL!!!!!! Running those would be reminiscient of an old LilEvo pass....13.9 @ 123 or some crazy shit.

I wouldnt count what happened to harv's car as a breakage; I put money down that he'll drive it to work tomorrow. Before his second pass, his unbraced/oscillating/vibrating homebrew WG dumptube finally cracked near the weld at the turbo. He kept running those last 2 passes like that, not a big deal. He actually finished his last run and immediately insisted on burning a nice set of mechanix gloves to forcefully snap it off. (god forbid letting it cool 5 minutes) Then he got this crazy idea in his head to disconnect the WG hose and drive it home carefully that way.

I ran a 13.546 @105.07. 60 foot times need much improvement at a 2.123. Tranny is no good, fights me to go into gear. This was at 14-15 psi. Not bad for a car that was originally non-turbo.

Good run Harv.
Are you still running that 14b?

Arnie

Again, street tires, pump gas. Lets see it!

How much boost were you running on your 108 trap pass?? I was running 14-15 psi on a 14b. Throw a 20g on my car and I will be faster than you. Just accept that your car is slow Arnie or do something about it instead of ripping on people because they are faster than you.

Um, you're not faster than me Harv.

How much water injection were you running? Slicks? Race Gas? Full, quiet exhaust? Gutted interior/taking the stereo out? Owning 2 cars? (my pickup truck doesnt count, I havent driven it since August) Thats not street car/daily driver like some people like to claim.

Build a car for $3500 that you drive every day, fill it up at the local gas station, put used NT450s that were GIVEN TO ME and runs low 13.1s and then come talk smack.

How much did it cost you to break into the 13s?

And it was 109 mph! :Flip Off:

I was running 93 octane pump gas with a full weight car including a roll of cough drops on the passenger seat. It doesnt matter how much money I spent on my car, I dont screw people to get ahead in life, I EARNED my shit. I would have been even faster on race gas too but chose not to use it. I never said I was faster but it seems that you get really defensive and extremely JEALOUS that your car is slower than a Festiva looking thing. You never answered my question, how much boost???

Arnie
10-18-2005, 01:11 PM
It doesnt matter how much money I spent on my car, I dont screw people to get ahead in life, I EARNED my shit.

Wow.

About 25 psi. Knocking like a bitch because I cant get rid of my boost creep with my internal wastegate. No money for an external right now.

Dont forget who helped you build your car Harv. Dont forget where half the parts on it came from, and how little you paid for them.

Im glad Pauls car is fast and I respect how fast it is. I feel his claim that it is a daily driver is bullshit because every time I see it it is in his garage taken apart and his best times were run with race gas and slicks. Thats my only beef.

Thats what I DID think it was all about. Considering that I basically built Harveys car when he was here at Platteville. I helped him swap a trans in the middle of January in a cold ass snow covered field. I gave him a lot of parts for free and a lot of parts for cheap. Up until the point he moved out of here, I had as many hours into his turbo swap as he did.

I really dont know where he gets off saying I screw people. :(

Im glad Pauls car is fast and I respect how fast it is. I feel his claim that it is a daily driver is bullshit because every time I see it it is in his garage taken apart and his best times were run with race gas and slicks. Thats my only beef.

I understand you have opinions, and I respect that. We all have different visions of what a streetcar is, and we can all tolerate a different level of sacrifices. Bench race, speculate, and make excuses on the internet all you want, here are some facts:

Sure, I work on my car all the time. Its what I love to do, and Ive spent lots of quality time in the garage on little projects, slowly making the colt what it is today. Ask anyone who’s worked on stuff with me, I tend to turn 10 minute projects into all day affairs. Money??? Pfft. You gotta pay to play.
When you start out with the base model project car, its gonna cost you more to bring things up to snuff.

The odometer on my car read ~127,000 when I pulled it apart and swapped the 4g63 into it. (120,000+ mi on the ‘dressed-up junkyard engine’ when it went in) I started driving it in March of 04’ and put it away in November of 04’ when the odometer read ~148,000. I drove it on business trips, commuted it to work, went on a few long roadtrips, went to Norwalk and back, and relied on it as my ONLY car. If shit happened to break, I had no other choice but to fix it.

When I brought it out for 05’ in April, the odometer still read ~148,000mi, and it had another handful of bolt-ons. I have been driving it a lot more than you indicate. The Colt’s odometer reads just over 173,000 today. It hits the revlimiter daily, and Ive been running 24psi on pumpgas/WI, provided its not raining outside.

By the end of the 04’ season, and the car did a best of 13.1 @ 110 on a 14B, full interior, quiet 2.5” exhaust tail to tip, race gas, puny little slicks, and 17psi.
Read the initial post of this thread, and you know where I’m at today on 3 back to back passes. My 12.3 @ 117.8 pass was unintentionally with 93 octane ONLY and TONS of knock. Sure, I did put 3 gallons of 100 octane in with a half tank of 93 octane after the run. No matter what your argument is, the car still ran the numbers.

I’ve thrown the slicks on for street driving several times. You and simes have even ridden in my car, on the street, on slicks. Last week I had the slicks on from Sunday-Tuesday. The forecast looked good so I drove to work on slicks for a couple days. 44 mile round trip each day, ran some errands outside of work as well. Still doesn’t make them ‘street’ tires, but hey, thought I’d throw it in.

To this date, the Colt has yet to leave me stranded. (knock on wood) Yes, I have been working on my car in the garage the three times you've stopped over in the last 2 years. One of those times I was putting the slicks on to take you for a ride.

Derive your own conclusions. These are the facts.
